Movandi MV3564/MV3514 synthesizer PLLs hit 75 fs jitter at 150 mW

Movandi has introduced two frequency synthesizer PLLs, the MV3564 and MV3514, aimed at wireless infrastructure and AI data center connectivity where low-jitter clocking and tight synchronization have to fit within strict power budgets. The parts are pin- and feature-compatible and target designs that need precise clock generation as systems scale in frequency, data rate, and node count.

The MV3564 and MV3514 are built on TSMC’s 40 nm RF CMOS process and are specified at 75 fs total jitter while consuming 150 mW. Movandi also states that this is 10× lower power than existing products with comparable jitter performance. Both devices integrate the VCO and include multi-chip phase synchronization intended to reduce footprint and system complexity.

Frequency coverage is split across the two parts. MV3564 covers 4.3–8.7 GHz and 8.6–12.3 GHz. MV3514 covers 7.76–9.84 GHz and 12.33–14.34 GHz. Movandi describes the pair as complementary, letting designers keep a common pinout while selecting frequency coverage by device.

On synchronization, the devices include multi-PLL frequency and phase synchronization with an integrated alignment engine, deterministic phase re-sync, and 30-bit fine phase adjustment. Reference options include an internal crystal or an external reference clock, and there’s a buffered reference-clock output for distribution in multi-clock systems.

For data center engineers, the most practical angle is power-per-clock-domain: 150 mW at 75 fs jitter is the kind of spec that can change how aggressively designers budget clocking networks in dense connectivity designs, especially when multiple synchronized clocks are needed across boards or modules. Integration helps too, because folding the VCO and alignment functions into the device can reduce external RF routing and the BOM that often comes with low-jitter clock trees.

“The MV3564 and MV3514 combine ultra-low jitter, exceptionally low power and precise multi-chip synchronization in a highly integrated architecture,” said Maryam Rofougaran, CEO and co-founder of Movandi.

Movandi lists target applications including 5G and emerging 6G infrastructure (CPE, gNodeB, O-RAN, and backhaul), data center communications for high-throughput AI links across scale-up and scale-out networks, high-speed ADC/DACs, and power-constrained physical AI systems such as drones and robots. The MV3564 and MV3514 are production sampling now.
