MSI launches 6th Gen AMD EPYC servers with up to 256 cores on SP7

MSI has rolled out a 6th Gen AMD EPYC server portfolio spanning SP7 and SP8 platforms, targeting AI, cloud, HPC, virtualization, and business-critical workloads. The lineup includes a liquid-cooled GPU server, 19-inch DC-MHS multi-node systems, 21-inch multi-node Open Compute designs for ORv3 rack-scale infrastructure, and 1U and 2U enterprise servers.

Across the portfolio, MSI is building on two socket families. SP7 systems scale to up to 256 cores and 512 threads per processor, while SP8 systems go to up to 128 cores and 256 threads per processor. For data center planners, the split matters because it effectively defines where MSI expects maximum-density, performance-driven deployments (SP7) versus more mainstream, balanced builds (SP8).

Liquid-cooled GPU server

The CG681-S6093 is a 6U liquid-cooled GPU server built on SP7. MSI lists support for dual 6th Gen AMD EPYC Server CPUs, 400G networking, and E1.S NVMe storage.

Multi-node core compute and Open Compute platforms

For 19-inch DC-MHS multi-node, MSI is shipping air-cooled SP7 and SP8 configurations aimed at cloud, virtualization, containerized workloads, and scale-out enterprise applications. The models called out are the CD270-S4091-X2 (2U, 2-node, 1P SP7, air-cooled) and CD270-S4081-X4 (2U, 4-node, 1P SP8, air-cooled).

On the Open Compute side, MSI lists 21-inch multi-node systems designed for ORv3 rack-scale infrastructure, with options spanning single-socket and dual-socket, plus air-cooled and liquid-cooled configurations. The named systems are CD281-S4091-X2 (2OU, 2-node, 1P SP7, air-cooled), CD181-S4091-X2 (1OU, 2-node, 1P SP7, liquid-cooled), CD282-S6091-X2 (2OU, 2-node, 2P SP7, air-cooled), CD182-S6091-X2 (1OU, 2-node, 2P SP7, liquid-cooled), and CD281-S4081-X2 (2OU, 2-node, 1P SP8, air-cooled).

Enterprise servers

For more traditional enterprise IT and business-critical deployments, MSI’s SP8-based enterprise servers come in 1U and 2U, in both single-socket and dual-socket configurations. MSI lists E3.S or U.2 storage configurations, OCP 3.0 networking, and “expansion flexibility.” Models include CX172-S4081 (1U, 1P SP8), CX272-S4081 (2U, 1P SP8), CX172-S6082 (1U, 2P SP8), and CX272-S6082 (2U, 2P SP8).

Danny Hsu, general manager of MSI’s Enterprise Platform Solutions, said, “Data center architecture is becoming more workload-specific, and customers need systems that can be selected with purpose.”
