Aratas America has introduced the G3VH, a silicon carbide (SiC) MOSFET relay aimed at high-voltage switching designs that need load-voltage ratings of 1,800 V or 3,300 V. For data center power engineers, the headline spec is simple: this is a relay family built for higher-voltage test and switching use cases where leakage, losses, and heat matter.
The G3VH series comes in 1,800 V and 3,300 V models and is rated for 5,000 Vrms dielectric strength between input and output. Aratas lists low ON resistance, low leakage current, and high-speed switching as core electrical characteristics, with the goal of minimizing power loss and heat generation in high-voltage environments.
Packaging options include PCB-terminal and surface-mount DIP 6-pin versions, giving equipment designers a choice between through-hole and SMT assembly while keeping the footprint compact. The company also points to SiC’s higher dielectric breakdown strength versus conventional silicon as a key enabler for supporting higher-voltage applications without growing the package.
In practical terms, higher-voltage switching components can help reduce I²R losses at the system level by moving power at higher voltage and lower current, but they also raise the bar on isolation, withstand voltage, and test methodology. A 5,000 Vrms input-to-output dielectric rating is the kind of spec that can simplify isolation design in instruments and test fixtures, assuming the rest of the system (creepage, clearance, and PCB layout) is engineered to match.
Aratas also calls out improved defect detection and conformance testing accuracy, reduced inspection times, and support for high withstand voltage as benefits aimed at test and measurement workflows.
