EPC Power has agreed to be acquired by Flex in a $4.4 billion deal, a transaction aimed at scaling EPC Power’s power-conversion portfolio for data center and grid-edge applications. The deal is subject to customary closing conditions, including required regulatory approvals, and is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2026. After closing, EPC Power will operate as a business within Flex’s Cloud and Power Infrastructure segment.
The agreement centers on EPC Power’s “software-defined” power conversion products used across data centers, utility-scale energy storage, and microgrids. EPC Power’s data center roadmap highlighted in the deal includes “next-generation 800-volt data center power architectures,” with digital rectifiers and solid-state transformers called out as key elements. The companies also point to an existing collaboration that the acquisition is intended to build on.
For data center engineers, the practical relevance is straightforward: higher-density AI racks push more stress upstream into power delivery, and the industry is actively exploring higher-voltage architectures to reduce distribution losses and current at a given power level. But moving to new power architectures also raises real integration questions around protection coordination, serviceability, and how new power-electronics layers behave under fast load steps from training and inference clusters.
EPC Power also ties its platform to on-site energy storage and microgrid operation for data centers, including grid-support configurations intended to help operators “energize capacity faster and ride through grid instability.” The company points to its Agile Grid Forming™ technology as part of that approach, framing it as a way to support performance and reliability for energy storage, microgrid, and grid-support deployments.
