Vantage Data Centers announces 1.4 GW mega-scale Texas data center campus with liquid cooling for AI workloads

Vantage Data Centers has announced a $25 billion investment to develop a 1.4 gigawatt data center campus, named “Frontier,” in Shackelford County, Texas. According to Vantage, the campus will be the largest in its global portfolio, situated on 1,200 acres and designed to advance artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure at hyperscale.

The Frontier campus will include 10 data centers, totaling 3.7 million square feet, each supporting ultra high-density racks of more than 250 kilowatts. To serve next-generation GPU-based AI workloads, Vantage says Frontier will use liquid cooling. Construction is underway, with the first facility scheduled for completion in the second half of 2026.

Vantage reports that the site’s design will feature a closed-loop chiller cooling system, requiring minimal water usage and supporting billions of gallons of water savings each year. The company states it is pursuing Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification for the campus.

The primary applications for the Frontier campus, as described by Vantage, are hyperscale AI and cloud data center operations. The company plans to employ more than 5,000 people across construction and ongoing operations.

“Texas has become a critical and strategic market for AI providers. In particular, the launch of our Frontier campus with 1.4 GW of GPU compute capacity marks a watershed moment for Vantage as we deliver on our promise to meet the unprecedented requirements of our customers,” said Dana Adams, president of North America at Vantage Data Centers.

Vantage indicates it will collaborate with general contractors, trade partners, local organizations, and educational institutions, including a commitment to provide college scholarships for Shackelford County students during the lifespan of the project.
