Barrio Energy announces two 10 MW data center sites in Texas

Barrio Energy has announced the development of two new 10 megawatt (MW) data center sites in Matagorda County, Texas. According to Barrio Energy, both sites feature confirmed 10 MW power availability and are situated in the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) South Zone. The projects are intended to meet rising demand for modular data centers, cryptocurrency mining, and advanced computing.

The new Matagorda County sites are designed for partners to deploy modular data centers, and Barrio Energy states that the locations benefit from the region’s established energy infrastructure and robust transmission capacity. One site is expected to be operational in the fourth quarter of 2025, with the second following in the first quarter of 2026. Both developments will allow tenants to manage on-site maintenance, utilities, and improvements, providing direct integration with Barrio Energy’s power services.

Barrio Energy notes that these sites build on its operational footprint in Monahans, George West, Lolita, and Tyler, Texas. The company claims the new developments will strengthen its role as a link between energy providers and high-demand users such as artificial intelligence (AI) compute, blockchain infrastructure, and other high-performance computing sectors.

“We are excited to advance these two high-potential 10 MW sites in Matagorda County, which perfectly align with our mission to provide scalable, efficient energy solutions for our clients,” said Ivan Pinney, CEO of Barrio Energy. “The ERCOT South Zone’s strong infrastructure and access to abundant power make it an optimal location for next-generation computing. These developments expand our portfolio and contribute to local economic growth through job creation and technological innovation.”
