FS launches 800G ZR/ZR+ coherent optics modules for AI and DCI networks

FS has launched 800G ZR/ZR+ coherent optical modules in OSFP and QSFP-DD form factors, targeting AI scale-across architectures and data center interconnect (DCI) networks. The pitch is straightforward: higher-capacity pluggables intended to simplify metro and regional optical builds while keeping operations and multi-vendor interoperability manageable.

The 800G ZR/ZR+ coherent optics modules are built around a Marvell 5 nm DSP and use advanced modulation schemes. FS lists distance targets of up to 120 km and 500 km over single-mode fiber, depending on the module and use case. The modules support operation in the C-band and L-band, positioning them for spectrum options commonly used to push more capacity through constrained fiber routes.

On standards and interoperability, FS states the modules are compliant with OSFP and QSFP-DD MSA standards, as well as 800ZR, OpenZR+, and OIF specifications. The modules also support Open FEC, which FS ties to transmission stability and reliability.

Operationally, the modules support CMIS and C-CMIS, with FS pointing to real-time monitoring, alarm reporting, and streamlined management. In practice, coherent pluggables only pay off at scale if they behave like the rest of your optics inventory from a monitoring and lifecycle standpoint, so CMIS support is table stakes for operators trying to avoid a one-off toolchain for DCI links.

“The growth of AI and DCI traffic is driving greater demand for scalable and efficient optical transport. FS 800G coherent modules are designed to help customers simplify network expansion and scale network capacity more efficiently,” said Kyrie Zhang, Senior Technical Director at FS.

FS says it will continue iterating on the products to meet “high-capacity, DCI, and long-haul transmission” requirements.
