Axelera AI has launched Europa, an AI Processing Unit (AIPU) architecture aimed at enterprise and data center inference, alongside a partner ecosystem that includes validated systems with Dell and Supermicro. The company is pitching Europa as a way for organizations to run production inference on infrastructure they control, with an emphasis on managing cost, power, and data placement.
Europa targets a mix of inference workloads, including agentic systems, vision-language models, generative AI, and machine and computer vision. Axelera AI is offering Europa in multiple form factors: as a chip for customers designing their own boards, as a half-height, half-length PCIe card called the Axelera Edge 232p, and as a full-height, full-length PCIe card called the Axelera Server 250p. The use of standard PCIe form factors is meant to let operators add inference capacity in existing servers without replatforming.
Axelera AI claims Europa can deliver up to 6x the tokens per second per watt of GPU-based solutions. If that holds up in real deployments, it’s a metric that directly impacts rack power budgets and how much inference throughput you can buy per kW—especially in environments where power headroom and GPU availability are both tight.
On the systems side, the company says the Axelera Edge 232p is available in a fully validated Dell XE5 and a Supermicro 111AD. Axelera AI also lists validated and available systems with OEMs including Advantech, Axiomtek, HPE, Lenovo, and Seco.
For software, Axelera AI is pairing Europa with its Voyager Toolchain, which it says helps developers optimize existing AI models for Axelera AI hardware and move from development to production across its hardware lineup. The company also describes Voyager Wingman as an agentic platform for porting inference pipelines, creating new pipelines, and optimizing code. Axelera AI also points to a model compilation approach it calls AxeleraScript (AxScript).
“Dell Technologies is working with AI systems integrator E4 and Axelera AI to support the deployment of next-generation AI infrastructure for the EU AI Factories in Italy and Luxembourg,” said Peter Barnes, General Manager, EMEA HPC, Dell Technologies.
Europa is “shipping now,” according to Axelera AI.
