VoltaGrid to supply 2,300 MW low-emission power for Oracle Cloud data centers

VoltaGrid has announced it will deploy 2,300 megawatts of ultra-low-emission natural gas infrastructure, supplied by Energy Transfer’s pipeline network, to support Oracle Cloud Infrastructure’s artificial intelligence data centers.

The solution will be delivered via VoltaGrid’s proprietary modular platform, designed with INNIO Jenbacher and ABB as key suppliers. According to VoltaGrid, the platform features a high-transient-response design intended to match the rapid power demand changes inherent to AI workloads. The system claims to provide grid-grade performance and ultra-fast response without using battery storage, while achieving near-zero emissions of regulated air pollutants.

VoltaGrid identifies additional platform attributes relevant to hyperscale and colocation operators, including performance optimized for AI, high power quality, vertical integration, and purpose-built heat rejection. The company reports that its modular approach enables scalable deployment for large-scale data center applications.

The project leverages firm natural gas supply from Energy Transfer’s pipeline and storage systems, which, according to Energy Transfer, offers a highly reliable gas supply for power generation in data center environments. Participating companies state the infrastructure is engineered to handle variable, power-intensive AI workloads, aiming to stabilize energy use and improve predictability for operators.

Nathan Ough, CEO of VoltaGrid, said, “This is more than a power deal, it’s a collaboration with Oracle to engineer scalable solutions that dampen swings in AI power demand,” noting the achievement of “grid-grade performance with ultra-fast response, zero reliance on battery storage, and near-zero criteria air emissions.”

Mahesh Thiagarajan, executive vice president at Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, said, “AI workloads are uniquely power-intensive and highly variable, often creating swings in demand,” and added, “By collaborating with VoltaGrid, we’re engineering innovations that dampen these swings, making AI’s power usage more stable, predictable, and grid-friendly. VoltaGrid’s platform joins OCI’s broad energy portfolio to bolster our leading-edge AI infrastructure with dependable power that can be effortlessly scaled.”
